The Feast of Weeks - Shavuot or Pentecost

Pentecost-LR

Shavuot or Pentecost

The Feast of Weeks or Shavuot is celebrated seven weeks and one day (50 days) after The Feast of First Fruits to rejoice in the late spring wheat harvest. It is also called Pentecost, the Greek word for fiftieth.

Jewish tradition also calls this day The Time of the Giving of Our Torah when the Lord revealed Himself to His people at Mount Sinai; Mount Sinai quaked violently as He came in glory with thunder, fire, thick clouds and smoke to write His law on tablets of stone. (Exodus 19)

1,500 years after the first Shavuot, the God of Israel again came to His chosen ones in glory and fire as they gathered together to celebrate Shavuot just as Yeshua Messiah had promised them! (John 14:16)

“And suddenly, a sound like a violent rushing wind came from heaven, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. And there appeared tongues of fire distributing themselves and resting on each one of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in different languages as the Spirit was giving them utterance.”  (Acts 2:2-4)

Those who had traveled from various regions to celebrate Shavuot in Jerusalem heard of God’s redemption in their own languages, and a bountiful harvest of souls was gathered that day. (Acts 2:41b)

The Holy Spirit had come! – God’s presence among His people, declared beforehand through the prophet Jeremiah, “This is the covenant I will make with the house of Israel after those days, I will put My law within them and write it on their heart...” (Jeremiah 31:33)

The apostle Paul referred to the believers as letters of Messiah, written not with ink but with the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone but on tablets of human hearts! (2 Corinthians 3:2-3)

“The love of God has been poured out within our hearts by the Holy Spirit Who was given to us!” (Romans 5:5)

Artist’s Notes

The glory of the Lord revealed in fire, smoke and thunder to the children of Israel at Mount Sinai mirrors the glory of the Lord revealed in fire and rushing wind to Yeshua’s disciples when the Holy Spirit was poured out into them on Shavuot in the upper room!

The twelve disciples on the artwork represent the 120 disciples that were present there that day (Acts 1:15; 2:1), as well as the 3,000 more who received their message! (Acts 2:41)

What will our posture be when confronted with His glory? Will we bow low or stand with outstretched arms in praise? Will we dance or be motionless in awe? Oh fill us, Lord!
Scripture references for Pentecost:  Leviticus 23:15-22; Deuteronomy 16:9-12; Acts 2

Welcome to Shale Fragments, a collection of writings and art for individual and group use!

Teaching God’s truth and the beauty of His Word is my greatest delight! My art card company, Flower Girl Greetings, was launched in 2012 with this purpose. In April 2020, ShaleFragments.com became the gathering place for the writings.

As I have studied the rich meanings of the original Greek and Hebrew languages of the Bible, I continue to see beautiful progressions and connections that compel me to organize and convey their life-changing beauty!
