The Place of Knowledge and Understanding

The Place of Knowledge and Understanding
John 8:31-32
A Short Devotional and Simple Reminder

Yeshua was saying to those Jews who had believed Him, “If you continue in My word, you are truly disciples of Mine, and you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free.” (John 8:31-32)

Monday morning, I sat at my dining table. My Bible was open – Adonai’s[1] love letter that has been with me for so many years through thick and thin.

How grateful I am for His written word, and for Yeshua, the Word made flesh,[2] and for the Holy Spirit.[3] I asked the Lord to be my Wonderful Counselor.[4] He is El Roi, the God Who sees and knows everything. I had questions for Him that were personal as well as far-reaching. Show me Your ways, O Lord.

I had decided to thoroughly read the first chapters of Exodus about the plagues put upon the Egyptians so that I could see how and if they foreshadow the plagues of the book of Revelation. I am asking for more light on the Last Days, as well as these times in which we live.

But first, I sat in quiet, just listening to Him. Psalm 25:14 came to mind:

The secret of Yahweh is for those who fear Him, and He will make them know His covenant.

Similarly, Yeshua said:

He who has My commandments and keeps them is the one who loves Me; and he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and will disclose Myself to him. (John 14:21)

Father gave the prerequisite for understanding – abiding with Him and abiding in His Word.

A closer look at the original Hebrew words

  • The word secret is the Hebrew sôwd. It means secret, intimate consultation, private counsela session, confidential or shared in a close relationship.
  • The word fear means a great awe and reverence.
  • The word intimate is also the Hebrew sôwd.
  • The word upright is yâshâr. It means straight, just, right ethically and emotionally, what is right in God’s eyes. It is from a root word meaning straightforward (not manipulative).

Yahweh shares Himself intimately with His chosen ones. He counsels those He birthed into His kingdom.[5] He discloses Himself personally and uniquely with each one of His children through His Son; they have received Him;4 the Holy Spirit has filled them, and they love His fellowship and counsel.

The answers we need about relationships, the end times, or any other subject cannot be obtained with our own wisdom, brain power, sweating over books, or our accumulation of knowledge. As the first definition shows us, His secrets and private counsel are for His children. The answers to our questions are mysterious, and so He draws us into intimacy, then discloses Himself and His plans to us.

The subject of the events of the last days is especially difficult to understand. Much of the symbolism is not meant to be understand by the casual passer-by, but by the seeker of God’s heart. As you search the Scripture to understand the signs of the times, the meat of the truth will become clear when you abide in Him and depend on the Holy Spirit for revelation.

Just like Yeshua’s parables, the understanding of them is only meant for those who reverence Him and His Word. He said,

“To you has been given the mystery of the kingdom of God, but for those who are outside, everything comes in parables so that while seeing they may see and not perceive, and while hearing, they may hear and not understand, otherwise they might return and it would be forgiven them.” (Mark 4:11-12)

O Father, the Great I AM, the Eternally Existent One, Savior, Redeemer of our souls, One Who birthed us in the Spirit of Adonai, Mighty Creator Who sees everything, Who sees the intention of our hearts,

Thank You for this reminder. We acknowledge Your presence. You are the Giver of wisdom, understanding, and revelation. Show us Your truth, open Your word with sure revelation, show us the path even if it is just one step at a time. Guard our hearts.

In the Name of Jesus, King Yeshua, our resurrected Lord. Amen.

Welcome to Shale Fragments, a collection of writings and art for individual and group use!

Teaching God’s truth and the beauty of His Word is my greatest delight! My art card company, Flower Girl Greetings, was launched in 2012 with this purpose. In April 2020, became the gathering place for the writings.

As I have studied the rich meanings of the original Greek and Hebrew languages of the Bible, I continue to see beautiful progressions and connections that compel me to organize and convey their life-changing beauty!
