Deepening in His Love
An Overview
Print the PDF

I engrossed myself in The Song of Songs in May 2016. Now in the fall of 2021, I am revisiting it and formatting it to be clear. My sources and influences over the last five years are following:

  • Jill Shannon’s (JS) book Unveiling the Song of Songs and many of her songs.
(Messianic Jewish Bible teacher, author, and singer/songwriter.)
  • Brian and Candice Simmons’ (B&C S) book The Sacred Journey – God’s Relentless Pursuit of Our Affection (Authors, The Passion Translation)
  • Rabbi K.A. Schneider’s (RS) teaching series Song of Songs – Journeying into Divine Love
(Messianic Jewish teacher, author, international evangelist, and pastor.)
  • Michael Card’s (MC) book Hesed and the Mystery of God’s Lovingkindness.
    (Award-winning musician, performing artist, songwriter)
  • Marti Evans’ book Wilderness Wanderings...devotions from the desert.
    (Founder, One Step Ministries)
  • Elizabeth Wolfe’s book The Bride of Christ – A Love Story
    (Speaker, mother, grandmother, interior designer)

Much of what is written in this Scripture Study The Song of Songs – Deepening in His Love also comes from my own Scripture connections in green, prayers in blue, art, and other thoughts (BA).

Separating the source of the revelation has been difficult, but I use orange initials to give credit throughout this document as best as I can.

Here are the contents of this Overview:

  • Introduction
  • Three Verses for Understanding the Song of Songs
  • The Bridal Paradigm in Scripture
  • An Overview – The Song of Songs in 5 Parts – The Progression of Holy Romance

Introduction
(BA) – “The Song of Songs is not a manual on human marital love; rather it is a prophetic, poetic love song from Yeshua to His people, His beloved. In these last days when darkness increases, we must be grounded in His love. Our defense, strength to endure, and healing will be in knowing His intense love for us deep in our spirits by way of His revelation.”

(JS) – “The Song is a poetic teaching about the Lord’s affection and yearning for His people and for the future Bride from all nations who would later be born out of Israel’s roots. It is a teaching about the burning flame of the Bridegroom’s jealous love for us…” (Pg. 79)

(RS) – “The Song of songs reveals the emotions of Yeshua. He is not just aware of us but is in dialogue with us. The Song reflects the bridal paradigm that culminates in the marriage supper of the Lamb.”

The Song’s three main characters are:

  • The Shepherd King – The Bridegroom Yeshua (I use Jesus’ Hebrew Name for this writing)
  • The Shulamite Bride – The Bride – the Church, the body of Messiah, His saints in all the earth
  • The Chorus or Voice – The Holy Spirit

Jewish thought teaches three progressions of intimacy found in The Writings

  • The Proverbs represent the outer court conventional wisdom.
  • The Psalms represent the inner court critical wisdom.
  • The Song of songs represents the Holy of Holiesthe wisdom of the heart.

Three Verses for Understanding the Song of Songs

  • 2 Peter 1:20-21
But know this first of all that no prophecy of Scripture is a matter of one’s own interpretation for no prophecy was ever made by an act of human will, but men moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God.

The Holy Spirit wrote the entire Bible to reveal Yeshua. Each book has a purpose, i.e., Romans teaches salvation from a legal standpoint. The Song of songs teaches us about the emotional side of God and His love for us. The Lord said to the church at Laodicia, “But I have this against you, that you have left your first love.” (Revelation 2:44) He must be our first love.

Solomon did not know he was prophesying by the Holy Spirit similar to Caiaphas’ prophecy in John 11:49-51 or the donkey’s message in Numbers 22:28.
  • John 16:13-15
But when He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth for He will not speak on His own initiative, but whatever He hears, He will speak; and He will disclose to you what is to come. He will glorify Me for He will take of Mine and will disclose it to you.  All things that the Father has are Mine; therefore, I said that He takes of Mine and will disclose it to you.
The Holy Spirit discloses Yeshua to us, His Bride.
  • Luke 24:27
Then beginning with Moses and with all the prophets, He [Yeshua] explained to them the hidden things concerning Himself in all the Scriptures.

Conclusion (RS)
If all of Scripture was written by the Holy Spirit,
and the primary role of the Holy Spirit is to glorify Yeshua,
then, the purpose of the Song of Songs is to glorify Yeshua.

The Bridal Paradigm in Scripture

  • Revelation 19:7, 9
Let us rejoice and be glad and give the glory to Him, for the marriage of the Lamb has come and His bride has made herself ready.

Then he said to me, “Write, ‘Blessed are those who are invited to the marriage supper of the Lamb.’” And he said to me, “These are true words of God.”
  • Revelation 21:9
Then one of the seven angels who had the seven bowls full of the seven last plagues came and spoke with me, saying, “Come here, I will show you the bride, the wife of the Lamb.”

  • Revelation 22:17
The Spirit and the bride say, “Come.” And let the one who hears say, “Come.” And let the one who is thirsty come; let the one who wishes take the water of life without cost.

  • Matthew 9:14-15
Then the disciples of John came to Him, asking, “Why do we and the Pharisees fast, but Your disciples do not fast?” And Yeshua said to them, “The attendants of the bridegroom cannot mourn while the bridegroom is with them, can they? But the days will come when the bridegroom is taken away from them, and then they will fast.”

  • 2 Corinthians 11:2
For I am jealous for you with a godly jealousy; for I betrothed you to one husband, so that to Christ I might present you as a pure virgin.

  • Isaiah 61:10
    I will rejoice greatly in the Lord, my soul will exult in my God;
For He has clothed me with garments of salvation,
He has wrapped me with a robe of righteousness,
As a bridegroom decks himself with a garland,
and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels.
  • Ephesians 3:17-19
…so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith and that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ which surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled up to all the fullness of God.

  • John 3:29
He who has the bride is the bridegroom; but the friend of the bridegroom who stands and hears him rejoices greatly because of the bridegroom’s voice. So this joy of mine has been made full.
  • Isaiah 62:1-5
For Zion’s sake I will not keep silent,
And for Jerusalem’s sake I will not keep quiet,
Until her righteousness goes forth like brightness,
And her salvation like a torch that is burning.
The nations will see your righteousness,

    And all kings your glory;
And you will be called by a new name
Which the mouth of the Lord will designate.
You will also be a crown of beauty in the hand of the Lord,
And a royal diadem in the hand of your God.
It will no longer be said to you, “Forsaken,”
Nor to your land will it any longer be said, “Desolate,”
But you will be called, “My delight is in her,” [Hephzibah]
    And your land, “Married” [Beulah]
For the Lord delights in you,
And to Him your land will be married.
For as a young man marries a virgin,
    So your sons will marry you;
And as the bridegroom rejoices over the bride,

So your God will rejoice over you.

Welcome to Shale Fragments, a collection of writings and art for individual and group use!

Teaching God’s truth and the beauty of His Word is my greatest delight! My art card company, Flower Girl Greetings, was launched in 2012 with this purpose. In April 2020, ShaleFragments.com became the gathering place for the writings.

As I have studied the rich meanings of the original Greek and Hebrew languages of the Bible, I continue to see beautiful progressions and connections that compel me to organize and convey their life-changing beauty!
